The Carlisle Family Connection (CFC) is a community group that provides resources, activities and support for families with children five years of age and under. The program offers an annual cycle of family events and playgroups. Participation in CFC is a wonderful way to get to know fellow families in Carlisle with young children!

Registration

The best way to make sure you don't miss any opportunities with the CFC is to sign up for ALL three CFC sessions (fall, winter and spring) at one time. The full year's registration fee is $36 per family (each individual session is $12 per family). The registration fee covers admission to all events and participation in playgroups for all family members. Registering early for all three sessions allows CFC volunteers to budget accordingly for a fun-packed year.

Events

Events include seasonal parties, educational programs, concerts and outdoor activities. Events are organized by volunteers and are tremendous fun for the kids attending them.

Past events have included:  Fall Kick off Event, Wash a Fire Truck, New Baby Brunch, Pumpkin Painting, Halloween Party, Holiday Party, Valentine's Day Party, Meet up at BB Kidz Klub, Footnotes Family Concert, Spring Egg Hunt, Police & Safety Event, Old Home Day Rest Stop, End of Season Picnic at Great Brook, Clark Farm Guided Visit, Clark Farm Market meetups, Parents’ Night Out, and all-age Summer Playgroup Meetups.

Playgroups

Playgroups allow children to get to know their peers prior to entering kindergarten at Carlisle Public School, while also providing an exceptional resource to parents and caregivers. Age-based playgroups meet in private homes on a monthly/weekly basis (to be determined within each group):

Children are the leaders of tomorrow.  Present them with the opportunity to feel self-reliant and confident in any social situation by taking interactive lessons taught by a certified etiquette consultant. Our workshop is designed to empower them with life skills that propel them towards personal and professional success. These skills will help them succeed at school, socially, and later, professionally and can create an appealing differentiator that sets them apart. Our lessons aim to instill social consideration and mutual respect as we believe that when children are taught these basic social skills in their early years, they tend to become more socially responsible as they grow up. To survive the rising social pressure, children must be trained in a way to feel confident and comfortable around people and to find their place in the world.

Instructor: Right Brain Curriculum

Famously, Americans’ number one fear is public speaking while death only ranks number two. If that’s so, this profound fear probably starts at an early age. In our Public Speaking class, we take the fear out of speaking before an audience by getting kids talking in front of a supportive group about things in which they are interested. They write speeches on subjects of their choice and practice delivering them to the assembled students. As the kids practice in this low-pressure environment, they learn skills like standing up tall, using a loud voice and making eye contact. We also watch speeches of public figures and critique what is successful and unsuccessful in their speeches and hold fun and engaging debates in which students are asked to take a position on given issues such as “Should school have homework?” and “What time should kids go to bed?” If the class is successful, our students won’t list public speaking as their #1 fear when they grow up. See a full curriculum preview: http://rightbraincurriculum.com/publicspeaking.    Instructor will meet the children after school and walk safely to the Brick Building on school campus.

Teenagers are the leaders of tomorrow. Our lessons aim to instill social consideration and mutual respect as we believe that when teenagers are taught these basic skills in their early years, they tend to become more socially responsible as they grow up. To survive the rising social pressure, teens must be trained in a way to feel confident and comfortable around people and to find their place in the world. Topics include: The importance of Greeting Others, Rules of Introduction, The Handshake, Eye Contact, and the Power of a Smile, Sportsmanship Etiquette, Hygiene and Appearance, Self-Respect and Respect for others, Behaving appropriately at Other People’s Homes, Making Appropriate Conversation, How to Sit & When to Stand, Proper Telephone Etiquette, Writing Thank You Notes, Social Media Etiquette, Public Speaking, Interviewing Skills, Theater Protocol & Other Modern Manners.

Fee:    $140 (4 Wks)

Instructor: Right Brain Curriculum
In Writing Wizards, we foster a love of writing by guiding students to write and publish their own real book! Using novels like Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia as inspiration, each class designs a fantasy world that includes major and minor characters, fantastic settings, an extended backstory and a world of wonder.  The authors use artwork and brainstorming to design plot twists and dynamic characters. Teachers guide the students, providing contextual mini-lessons on writing techniques that include the use of appropriate dialogue, detailed descriptions, sensory-rich word choice, and character, plot and theme development.   At the end of the course, students publish their first real novel—signed by our Writing Wizards!
