The Carlisle Family Connection (CFC) is a volunteer-run community group that provides resources, activities, and support for families with children five years of age and under. The program offers an annual cycle (September to August) of family events and playgroups. Participation in the CFC is a wonderful way to get to know fellow families in Carlisle with young children!

Registration

The best way to make sure you don't miss any opportunities with the CFC is to sign up! The registration fee is $36 per household per annual cycle. The registration fee covers admission to all events and participation in playgroups for all family members. All registrants will be included in announcements emailed by the Carlisle Recreation Department regarding the CFC. Registering early allows CFC volunteers to budget accordingly for a fun-packed year.

Events

Events include seasonal parties, educational programs, concerts, and outdoor activities. Events are organized by volunteers within each playgroup and are tremendous fun for the kids attending them.

Previous events have included:  Fall Kick off Event, Wash a Fire Truck, New Baby Brunch, Pumpkin Painting, Halloween Party, Holiday Party, Valentine's Day Party, Meet up at BB Kidz Klub, Footnotes Family Concert, Spring Egg Hunt, Police & Safety Event, Old Home Day Rest Stop, End of Season Picnic at Great Brook, Clark Farm Guided Visit, Clark Farm Market meetups, Parents’ Night Out, and all-age Summer Playgroup Meetups.

Like to take your school aged children out to eat with you at a fine dining or a large social event but you’re a little afraid how they might behave? Actually, the earlier the better when it comes to teaching children dining etiquette. Sam Sifton, Food Editor for The New York Times states, ““Kids are awesome and they should be part of the dining experience,” says Sifton. “Anytime we go to a restaurant, we are entering into a social contract with everyone else in the restaurant. I’m not trying to ruin your good time, and you’re not trying to ruin mine. It’s important to model that behavior, so kids can accept the social contract and have a good time.” Introducing your child to proper table manners and dining etiquette today can help build their confidence in any social settings tomorrow!

Topics Include: Approaching and seating at the table, The napkin and its uses, Understanding place setting, How to correctly hold silverware, The bread & butter plate, The soup course, Proper use of silverware, American and Continental styles of dining, Passing food at the table, What to do with unwanted food, Appropriate table conversation, Excusing yourself from the table, Other table manners & much more.

In today’s fast-paced, high tech society, teaching children manners is more crucial than ever. One of the most important jobs we have as parents and teachers is to help children develop social skills, show them how to interact with others in a polite manner, and teach them to treat everyone with respect. Whether the occasion is a family gathering, a meal at a restaurant, or a quick trip to the grocery store, children can apply our lessons in any social situations and practice good manners so that they become a habitual part of their lives and set them apart.

Topics Include: The Importance of Greeting Others, Rules of Introduction, The Handshake, Eye Contact, and the Power of a Smile, Self-Respect and Respect for others, Proper Telephone Etiquette, Writing Thank You, and Other Modern Manners.

The sky is the limit in Expert Architects! In this math, writing and presentation class, students each serve as president of a new architectural firm and are tasked with designing and building the city’s next skyscraper. Students study a kid-friendly history of skyscrapers and create a blueprint of their own stylized tall building. They then must weigh other considerations including the environment, traffic and surrounding buildings using Google Earth to find the perfect location for their project. Our expert architects create a three-dimensional model of the structure and present their work to invited parents. “This program requires the students to create models in a Minecraft-type program called Minetest for which we send download instructions. The program is generally not compatible with Chromebooks or tablets.”

to help you put into practice all of the things that you will learn in class. You will be given

shooting assignments each week (4 assignments: weeks 2 – 5) specific to that week’s class

material. The instructor will then review your work and provide positive and constructive

feedback to help you take your work up another notch. The critiques are provided via video and

can be downloaded for reviewing as many times as you like. The instructor will be available to

In today's competitive world, it’s not just what you do that counts it is how you do it. While academic qualifications are very important, soft skills are just as crucial in determining long term success especially when competition for college, internships and jobs is fierce. Give your teenager the lifelong gift of courtesy, resilience and good manners. Our workshop is aimed to empower them into becoming confident, independent and respectful adults so that they can navigate their way through life with poise and grace. These skills will help them succeed at school, socially, and later, professionally and can create an appealing differentiator that sets them apart. Our lessons instill mindfulness & social consideration as we believe that when teenagers are taught these basic social skills in their early years, they tend to become more socially responsible as they grow up. To survive the rising social pressure, teens must be trained in a way to feel confident and comfortable around people and to find their place in the world.

Topics include: The importance of Greeting Others, Rules of Introduction, The Handshake, Eye Contact, and the Power of a Smile, Sportsmanship Etiquette, Hygiene and Appearance, Self-Respect and Respect for others, Behaving appropriately at Other People’s Homes, How to Sit & When to Stand, Proper Telephone Etiquette, Writing Thank You Notes, Social Media Etiquette, Interviewing Skills, Theater Protocol & Other Modern Manners.
